Pediatric Eye Exams
Routine pediatric eye exams should start at 6 months of age and should be done annually to ensure your baby’s eyes are healthy, the eye muscle movements and alignment are developing properly and that the eyes are focusing together.
Routine pediatric eye exams should ideally begin at 6 months of age.
Following their initial exam, it’s advised that children undergo yearly eye exams. Early identification of conditions like refractive errors and eye misalignment can prevent amblyopia, commonly known as lazy eye. We’ll monitor your child’s vision development, watching for changes in eye alignment, refractive errors, and other issues. Detecting vision problems early increases the likelihood of successful treatment.
Eye examinations for children will cover a range of assessments, including but not limited to:
- Eye muscle coordination and alignment
- Vision clarity at a distance
- Close-up vision ability
- Depth perception skills
- Color vision accuracy
- Pupil response to light
- Presence of refractive errors (like nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism)
